These particular dwarf buildings were actually erected according to some kind of imposition back in the 1480s that all buildings must show some 'tribute'. When this settlement started, this piece of land was owned by the counts of D'Acquaviva D'Aragona, who imposed the locals that they built their houses with dry bricks without mortars so that they could be demolished easily. The reason behind seemed to be a preventive measure against volcano eruption.
这些特殊的矮人建筑—特鲁里Trulli,实际上是1480年代被“逼着造出来的”,且所有的小房子都必须表现出一定的“敬意”。最初,在人们刚开始来这定居时,这块土地归Conversano D'Acquaviva D'Aragona伯爵们所拥有。他们要求当地人用没有灰浆的干砖建造房屋,背后的原因是以防万一火山爆发,他们可以把房子轻易拆除和重建。
Hence the local peasants eventually developed an architecture of constructing a self-supporting circular dome with loose stone-masonry, creating a pleasantly cool microclimate within. I was told the house were equally cold during winter! While the houses look extremely primitive, they are well ventilated and contains a drainage system plus a fireplace ventilation. On the tip of the dome there is usually a decorative sign which was literally the signature of the builder. Later some mystic, religious or superstitious symbols were painted on the domes to reflect the owners' messages.
The word trullo (plural trulli) is derived from the Greek word τρούλος meaning cup. Trulli are not restricted to Alberobello, in fact, as we drove along the seaside way from Bari to Alberobello, there are plenty of isolated trulli along the way. Of course the largest concentration of them are in Alberobello, which means beautiful tree.
trullo(复数trulli)这个词来源于

All these trulli are closely clustered around the Zona Monumentale Trulli along Monte Pertica, and one can stroll around the area in one or two hours. All of them have become a souvenir shop or some stores, with a few private homes allowing a free visit.
所有这些特鲁利都紧密地聚集在休憩山(Monte Pertica)上的“圆顶石屋纪念区”周围,人们可以在那里花上一两个小时漫步。 这些特鲁里圆顶石屋现在都边成了旅游纪念品商店,其中有几个私人住宅可以免费进入参观。
